It’s a good time to be a cast member of The Morning Show. Ten of the show’s actors received Emmy nominations this season including a first nomination for Nicole Beharie in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category, where she’ll compete with three of her Morning Show co-stars.
In Beharie’s case, this third season of the series is only her first and she hit it out of the park as Christina Hunter, the new anchor on the show replacing Reese Witherspoon’s character. She’s already been recognized at the Gotham Awards for the performance, and now is excited about being up for an Emmy for the much buzzed storyline in which the owner of the network (played by Holland Taylor) is found to have written an email in which she described Hunter as an “Aunt Jemima.” It leads to a tense scene with Hunter calling her out in one of the show’s best episodes ever.
Beharie joins me for this episode of my Deadline video series, The Actor’s Side, in which we talk about that episode, other breakout career moments (including her starring role in the hit film Miss Juneteenth), and her experience working opposite Chadwick Boseman in the Jackie Robinson biopic 42. She also gives us a clue as to where her Morning Show character is heading in the upcoming season 4 of the series.
