Justin Baldoni (Actor)

Justin Baldoni was born in Los Angeles, but he was raised in Medford Oregon. A hamstring injury prevented him from pursuing a career in athletics, but he quickly landed many roles as an actor after relocating to Los Angeles.

Beginning roles included parts in The Young and the Restless(1973) and Spring Break Shark Attack (2005). He played the recurring role of Reid Bardem in the fourth season of Everwood on the CW, and he produced and starred in The Forgotten Ones, a low-budget horror film. He then landed recurring roles on The Bold and the Beautiful and Heroes.

Alongside Rainn Wilson, Baldoni created a docuseries My Last Days which centered stories of terminal illnesses, in 2010. In 2014, he landed one of his most well-known roles as Rafael Solano in the CW’s Jane the Virgin. Rafael becomes the biological father of Jane’s (Gina Rodriguez) baby after she gets inseminated completely by accident (she’s a virgin.)

His production company Wayfarer Entertainment made way for films like the documentary  Rebel With a Cause: The Sam Simon Story (2015) which focused on the co-creator of  Simpsons and his advocacy for animal rights as well as his own terminal illness. He also produced and directed the documentary Laughing at My Nightmare which chronicled a young man’s journey with spinal muscular atrophy.

Baldoni made his feature directorial debut with the adaptation of Five Feet Apart, a best-selling novel by Rachael Lippincott, Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis. The film starred Haley Lu Richardson as Stella Grant and Cole Sprouse as Will, two young patients at a hospital who suffer from cystic fibrosis, a lung disease that prevents them from getting close at the risk of infection. Moises Arias also appears as Poe.

Baldoni’s latest directed feature film, It Ends With Us, based on Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel, arrives in theaters on August 9. He is married to actress Emily Baldoni, and they have been together over 12 years. The couple shares two children — Maiya and Maxwell. In 2017, Baldoni gave a Ted Talk about toxic masculinity, and he has also authored two books: Man Enough: Undefining My Masculinity and a workbook titled Boys Will Be Human.
