It Ends With Us (Film)
It Ends With Us is a Sony film based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Colleen Hoover. It opened in theaters August 9, 2024. It is currently available to stream on Netflix.
Justin Baldoni (Jane the Virgin, Madam Secretary) directed the film and produced it through his company Wayfarer Studios. He also starred in the film as Ryle Kincaid, an abusive man who falls in love with main character Lily Bloom (Blake Lively). Lily’s story is partially based on that of author Colleen Hoover, who cites her parents as inspiration for the dynamic between Lily and Ryle. Lily herself has an abusive father in the film, portrayed by Kevin McKidd. The story also hinges on the resurfacing of Lily’s past love Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar). Their backstory is part of Lily’s foundation, and when she and Atlas reconnect, Ryle senses their bond and gets worse in his behavior.
Jenny Slate and Hasan Minhaj also appear as Ryle’s sister Allysa and Allysa’s husband Marshall. Amy Morton plays Lily’s mother Jenny Bloom. Isabela Ferrer plays a younger version of Blake Lively’s character Lily, and Alex Neustadter plays a younger version of Atlas Corrigan. Lively also executive produced the film alongside Colleen Hoover. Hoover wrote a sequel novel to the story called It Starts With Us, which focuses more on Atlas’ backstory and takes place after the events of It Ends With Us.
